To Our McIntire Community,
As the Commerce School continues to grow and evolve in many ways, this year we also acknowledge an important and historic milestone: our Centennial. As we honor the past, recognize the present, and look to the future of McIntire, we appreciate that the lasting and flourishing success of the School has only been possible through the support of our extraordinary donors.
The last 100 years have given rise to innovative educational developments and transformational experiences that have positively impacted the lives of those who learn, teach, and engage with the Commerce School on Grounds and around the globe. And despite challenges of all kinds that emerged across the decades, the constant loyalty of our dedicated community has remained. Your longstanding commitment to the Commerce School ensures that our students are prepared to inspire and lead with integrity and use commerce for the common good…
In our Centennial year, your gifts have proven more consequential than ever in advancing our mission. Through your generosity in giving to the Inspire the Next Century campaign and the McIntire Annual Fund, we are amplifying our impact in a multitude of ways: refreshing and enhancing our undergraduate and graduate curricula; launching new programs in partnerships with other schools across the University; and expanding our physical space on Grounds through the McIntire Expansion Project.
In addition to the rigorous review of our hallmark undergraduate Integrated Core program and high-ranking graduate degrees that is currently underway, donor contributions are also fueling the creation of many exciting interdisciplinary programs. We are currently co-developing curricula in business-adjacent subjects that incorporate expertise from faculty at schools across Grounds, while providing non-Commerce majors with exciting opportunities to learn at our world-class institution.
We will also begin writing McIntire’s next chapter in 2022, when we break ground on Shumway Hall—the School’s new building and central feature of the Expansion Project. In giving to the Next Century Building Fund, our devoted community has been instrumental in helping us realize the visionary plans for the progress of the School. This crucial next step will provide functional, flexible spaces for students, staff, and faculty, while spacious multiuse areas will invite more programmatic innovation and collaborative learning and provide the capacity to host alumni for conferences and social events. Serving as a student-centric “Gateway to Grounds,” the Commerce Complex will act as an inviting and inclusive hub of UVA student life and a welcoming pathway toward the Lawn.
The Centennial calendar is highlighted by joyful events to commemorate the occasion. We look forward to welcoming you back to McIntire to thank you for your support and celebrating all that we have accomplished together.
